It is key to know when an idea or approach better serves the writing. There is no other criteria. When everyone is open, it becomes a dance, and it's often impossible within a few days to parse out who came up with what, because, like a band who gets a group credit for a song, the initial idea is just the start. Each team member contributes. Synergy makes for higher-quality work. But the egos have to stay in check, there has to be trust, and the best path to get there is to be flexible. I also find it helps to have personal projects where you are answering to no one through most of it. On days where your ideas are being hammered and your visions warped, it is helpful to know you can go to your writing room with your personal project.

“Resistance is futile.” In writing great content, it’s not, actually. Resistance often acts as a necessary barrier to higher-quality content. While frustrating, it exists in response to a lack of important elements in your content. Finding the points of contention is the first step towards nullifying resistance. Agreeing with the consensus is the next. Once you’ve overcome these hurdles, your challenge becomes knowing how to alter your content accordingly. Resistance can inspire everting from a minor clarity issue to a complete tonal shift. It can also be the impetus to cultivate a stronger partnership with a collaborator or client. Resistance isn’t futile. Though your attitude may be. Instead, embrace pushback to push forward.
