Who writes this stuff? Obviously no one who’s worked front lines in an industry, utility, or any company other than the 1 with more money and staff then they know what to do with. In today’s world of constant refresher training regarding Corporate HR, with rules and required policy training, safety training, training and education to maintain certifications, this list goes on and on. Incentive pay? Bonus? Extra Time away? Working in a system that answers to P&L, rate payers, share holders, with annual budgets generally etched in stone? You have a number of frontline workers that are interested in where the next piece of equipment comes from to simplify their jobs, they’re interested in when and how much their next raise will be. Get Real!

When people are hesitant to accept something new, often times is not based on any type of research that they have done, but rather, emotional attachment to the way things have always been. Get them in a room together, get them sharing their concerns. As they start to overcome each other of objections, they will realize that they have far more in common, and are working toward the same goal. People strongly care about their own opinions. However, when you can show them that you value theirs, they will likely reciprocate and show attention toward yours. Then they will be open to hearing the other side of the story, and can likely decide upon common ground.
