Incorrect: "Metadata is the backbone of a functional IA. Correct: While metadata may be essential to content publishing, knowledge retrieval, and data analytics, it is not the "backbone of a functional IA." The backbone of a functional IA is the aggregate of conceptual models (concepts and their relationships) that function as structure of a shared information environment. Metadata is a structural component of a functional IA in cases where it is needed. With that said, I've never come across a large-scale environments that did not benefit from the use of consistent metadata.

Here are 2 tips for success when expanding your IA. 1). Your design system has to be built to be scalable. I recommend using "Atomic" design practices and creating a component library that all designers and developers must adhere to. Here you can create a "source of truth". The key feature is when you update small elements in one design, they will populate in others. Keeping everyone on the latest designs. 2). Your handoffs to developers will need to be more diligent on the tiny details, including your file structures. Be clear about what is considered "ready for dev" and what isn't. As well, when handing off a slight improvement, highlight that change to not make your devs play "Where's Waldo".

Monitor how well it's handling the increased load and whether users are finding what they need without frustration. Be prepared to iterate and refine your IA, taking into account new business objectives, user requirements, and technological advancements to maintain a robust and responsive framework.
