Accessibility isn't a feature. Let's start there. It's not a freaking feature. We don't upvote it. It's not something we can save for later. It's baked in from the start. Accessibility shouldn't be compromised. With roughly 25% of humans identifying as having one or more disability, diagnosis, or condition, there is never a good reason to make something difficult or impossible to use for 25% of the population. Where's your company values? Empathy? Honesty? "We care about people?" Then you build something accessible. Compromise somewhere else. Release fewer features, and make them better. Don't release something you know NOW has to be fixed later. That's low quality.
-
To ensure accessibility isn't compromised during tight timelines, include it in the design from the start. Work with developers to make accessibility part of the process, focusing on important areas like text readability and color contrast. Test for accessibility throughout the project to catch issues early and avoid rushing fixes later.
-
To prevent accessibility compromises during timeline conflicts, prioritize accessibility from the start, integrating it into each project phase. Clearly communicate its importance to stakeholders, and if needed, adjust the scope by scaling back less critical features, but never accessibility.
-
When project timeline conflicts arise, safeguarding accessibility features requires strategic prioritization. First, treat accessibility as a non-negotiable aspect of your project rather than an optional add-on. Focus on integrating key accessibility features early in the design and development phases, ensuring they’re baked into the core of the product. Collaborate with stakeholders to communicate the long-term value of accessibility in enhancing user experience and compliance. Leverage design systems with built-in accessible components to save time without compromising quality. Regularly test with assistive technologies to identify and address issues as they arise, maintaining accessibility even under tight deadlines.
-
In this situation, ? Focus on core accessibility elements. ? Break down accessibility tasks into manageable steps. ? Keep stakeholders informed about the need for accessibility. ? Integrate remaining accessibility features in future iterations.
