Organizational change, while often necessary for growth and rationalization, can be a disruptive process. To navigate these challenges effectively, you need to follow a well thought-out strategy. Open and transparent communication is key. Foster a positive change culture by emphasizing the positive outcomes of the change. Empowering employees by involving them in the decision-making process is also required. You need to lead by example by demonstrating resilience and modeling the behaviors you want to see in others. You should offer support and resources to employees who may be struggling with the change. By implementing these strategies, you can help maintain motivation, inspire others, and successfully navigate organizational change.

One mentor of mine often said that, in the absence of information, people make it up. Successful organizational change requires that the leader provide clear, honest and timely information. That same information must be delivered in the way the team will receive it best. Email, Teams message, voice memo, slack, tik tok, you tube short, newsletter, what’s app, bill board…whatever it is, the best leaders are open to it because we know the only communication that matters is the one that gets through. Otherwise, all our best efforts are lost in translation.

By far the most impactful thing you can do is communicate…communicate…communicate! So often, necessary change fails or becomes a very stressful action due to the lack of communication. Both from the top of the organization, who should be explaining, with clarity, the why. And from the bottom-up, who should be open to providing feedback. Change is not a one-way event. Remember that, and you’ll be in a better mindset to communicate better.

Most people are resistant to change. When we can come together and see it as an opportunity for growth, while supporting each other along the way, it can be less stressful. Most of the time people do not feel that they have a say in the matter. Emotional intelligence can support us by encouraging open discussions and communication where people feel safe, seen, and heard.
