In my opinion, From system quality attributes, maintainability should be considered throughout SDLC.For instance,cheking maintainability of the code should be taken seriously at code review.

Understanding how our customers use or will use our system is crucial for effective architectural changes. If we expect high traffic with frequent data requests, prioritizing a resilient then a high-availability for our database is in important key player here. Also, adding monitoring systems that offer real-time insights will help us make architectural decisions and adapt as new requirements emerge. Aligning architecture with business needs isn't just about scaling—it's about building a system that can evolve seamlessly as the business grows.

In my opinion, this how we practice system thinking having holistic view of a solution. Thinking a system as one component will help to visualize beyond the system so that you can have flexible design. It is very hard to think Agile with this design concept.

Architectures first in mind are a guiding light to answer business needs. To answer those business needs, we need to make the architecture decisions that help give value to customers, but also with the right velocity. To achieve both, making our R&D process, considering the teams, the code development to review, testing, and deploying to production, should have processes that help the SDLC cycle be efficient. Utilizing Microservices for example, if it fits, allows us to decouple our system into smaller units, which helps teams progress decoupled from other teams, and progress much faster in their development, testing, debugging issues, and deploying the features.

After you have everything from the requirements and predicted future growth, and business stakeholders allow projects of changing the current system, current systems architectures should be redesigned to allow scalability to those required specifications, and reimplemented as soon as the planning allows it, so that they would already be in place as soon as possible, and the system would be able to scale (with performance), when the demand will require it, in the future.

Prioritizing scalability starts by analyzing current and projected business needs, as well as industry trends. This helps identify which areas require scalability and the best approach to achieve it. For example, if your product handles millions of records in a database, solutions like sharding for multiple writers and replica sets for readers can help. However, each scenario is unique, and complexities must be carefully managed. Start by assessing your system’s needs to ensure that your scaling decisions—whether vertical, horizontal, or database optimizations—are effective and sustainable.

Probably as much as possible automation tools should be implemented, along with deployments also automated tests (regressions, end to end).
