Come to the table with a clear, concise plan that includes timelines and milestones for check-ins to ensure the schedule stays on track. And don't forget to be prepared to know what hill you're willing to die on.

It's always a good idea to define milestones and critical deadlines together as a team with all stakeholders. These need to be reviewed and evaluated regularly and all stakeholders need to be kept in the loop. I build in a buffer, perhaps two weeks, a month. Sometimes these are not shared with stakeholders. Another tip is to identify essential activities, your must haves and your nice to haves but can drop. Discuss a back-up plan from the get-go. What's our alternative if there are delays.
