One thing I always find helpful is going back to basics of the problem and the relevant mathematics. Yes, different perspectives are welcome to be considered and one should hear them. But, eventually too many perspectives about CAD geometries might confuse an individual and progress him towards task halt for a long time. Thus, all perspectives should be kept aside, basic mathematics should be reworked concerning that problem and then dive into creating the geometries again.

I do agree that consulting with CAD experts does help one in filtering out the perspectives about geometries that would not be helpful. Thus, the narrowing down of unnecessarily complex perspectives on that same problem can help with lining out important aspects from the ones that actually matter.

Categories that define(d) geometries and causes for 1: Process . Foundry directed such as min width, space. New FAB or equipment or process steps may require updating geometry values. 2: Device construction Ex: E to B spacing. (larger than any process rules ) Foundry/Modeling discovers root cause of failure requires even larger E to B spacing. 3: because Ex: a min enclosing shape would be 0.99, but the drawn shape may be 1.0. 4: for no good reason at all ( change this !! ) I have seen triangular 45 shapes with staircase steps ( in a process requiring ortho shapes only) copied to another process that allows 45 shapes. The sole issue with this shape is the high polygon count, and in this process 3 points would suffice.

Resolving through Trial and Error. One of the long drawn methods of solving CAD geometry issue is also to try out most of the perspectives of CAD design one by one. Only by acting on each perspective can it be vividly seen which of the method suits the best for the CAD problem at hand. And it can be also used as reference for future problems in similar lines.
