My favourite term in coaching, Act to understand. If you are looking for a career path reset, approach as an expert researcher (Dora the explorer). Ask for feedback from trusted colleagues to better understand your transferable skills. Research sectors and organisations you would love to work in. Research their employees, research their roles and the education they have. Define your offering and network. Attend interviews to better understand the business. 1. Seek feedback 2. Research like a pro 3. Network 4. Attend interviews 5. Choose your new path with knowledge

When facing a career reset, I focus on crafting a personal 'vision statement' to anchor my direction. This helps clarify my goals and purpose, making every next step intentional. I also leverage informational interviews—not just for networking, but to gain a real-world view of potential roles and skills in demand. Finally, I embrace small projects or freelance work in the new field to build credibility and gain hands-on experience. This approach not only reduces the pressure but also builds confidence as I gradually transition into the new path.

It's crucial to firstly understand the real cause behind facing a career path reset. Next, be form about your expectations and command over the skillsets you wish to leverage to grow. After that, be willing to bring that shift to truly enhance your growth in your career.

Embracing a career reset isn't just a challenge—it's an opportunity for reinvention. In a world that values adaptability, starting over can lead to discovering untapped passions and skills. Let’s not fear the unknown; instead, let's leverage it to build a future that aligns with our true purpose. Every ending is a new beginning—let’s make it count!

Don’t think of it as a start over…that implies you have no skills to bring to the new direction. No job or career is wasted, as long as you take time to identify the skills and experience you’ve developed and how this can be useful going forward. E.g. if you’ve waited tables in a restaurant you learn so much: - how to communicate and interact with customers, building rapport, creating ongoing relationships - reading the room - honing your attention skills to quickly notice and anticipate needs - problem anticipation and solving - marketing and sales - upselling and creating desire for a product Etc. Now identify where YOUR strengths lie (what you’re great at and love) - then translate them to the new role with stories and experiences.
