Communication at every level should have clear with same message Travel and activities based budget should be first keep a tap pause on hiring Move to cost saving country also revisit the Risk and opportunity tabs to gain the positive gain and avoid the negative impact Increase the cash flow and negotiate on your payable this will give you a lead time and stay strong for continuing the business also discuss with your banks on options they can support Hope to hear more from others I can add more business practical case specific strategies we implemented

Ive been on both the management and employee side of this scenario when the management seemed very closed off and ignoring the subject the atmosphere seemed very tense and made everyone feel suspicious of what the real motivation for the managers for the team. And when everyone’s livelihoods were at stake it doesn’t take much suspicion to turn into a full blown mutiny. Then the good employees find better jobs and leave and the not so great employees will take advantage of the mass confusion. End result is a lot of knowledge base goes somewhere else and when everything stabilizes there’s a lot of collateral damage and that means extra cost.

One thing I have found helpful is also involving them in the budget cut. After the discussing with them on the need to defer gratification, and prioritize spending, I would request that they come up with a priority list that will exclude what expenses can be deferred and how we can improvise. Most times when this is adopted, the anticipated budget cut is exceeded.

Open communication is important.... with context & guidance. You don't want to walk in a room & say "We're not hitting our goals this year, we're going to cut costs" You should be going in with what the plan is for the future. "Yes, things are hard this year & hard decisions will be made. But over the next 12-36 months we have a plan in place to recover & be in the best place this company has been. Everyone will help make that happen. It's a team effort" It's not ignoring the bad, it's acknowledging, being strategic, and planning. Be honest. Be prepared.

The organization's financial status and the reasons behind the budget reduction may be better understood via open communication. This alleviates doubt and helps team members see why the cutbacks are necessary. The effects of the budget reduction on the team's operations may be better understood if everyone is on the same page. Team members may then prepare appropriately and expectations can be managed. This way, you can find out what your team members are going through and help them out when they need it. By taking this preemptive step, any interruptions may be minimized and productivity can be preserved.

In order to make the most of limited funds, judicious distribution is required. One way to prioritize activities is to reevaluate them to see which ones provide the greatest value. Prioritizing tasks is a critical part of leadership, more often than not we ask ourselves the following questions 1. Is this task that requires huge financing urgent and important? 2. Is it important but not urgent ? Projects like this can be deferred to another opportune time. If the project is important and urgent, we then evaluate the project as follows: 1. Can the project be done in phases? 2. What existing project(s) that is of less importance or urgency can be substituted? 3. Vendor engagement also becomes important in determining vendor arrangement or exploring the use of supplier’s credit in project financing. It is important to note that any issue that will affect budget spend must have the board consent.

An example I have seen is with my digital team in Accion MFB, Nigeria. The team was saddled with the responsibility of building a new mobile application to replace an existing one. Apart from the rising cost of maintaining the existing mobile App it required an improvement to meet the growing expectations of our customers and the external developer could not attend to the issues immediately because of other projects they were working on. The internal digital and IT team were about to successfully delivered a new mobile application called AccionMonie. The lessons critical to innovation is that an organization must build an enabling environment and encourage experimentation and sometime big failures.

Teams are driven to discover creative ways to accomplish objectives with limited financial resources in order to make the most efficient and cost-effective use of those resources. Because of this need, people often come up with novel solutions. Because of limited resources, businesses must choose which initiatives will provide the greatest return on investment. This might spark new ideas for improving operations or delivering goods and services by challenging established norms. When funds are tight, teams have to be creative and look at things they would not have thought of before, including new technology, partnerships, or approaches. New prospects and competitive advantages may be found via this investigation.

Absolutely encouraging a culture of innovation keeps your team engaged, as they feel empowered to contribute ideas that could make a real difference. It turns the challenge of budget cuts into an opportunity for growth.

Recognition of team or individuals efforts that contributed to the organization must be encouraged and also done quickly. It must also be done publicly and at high levels. Beyond the cash recognition, a handshake or dinner with the CEO with other management staff are other examples. An organization can also have a culture or rewards for innovations that cause a major savings or breakthrough known throughout the organization. E.g. ‘ The chairman’s reward for excellent innovation’ that will be published in company’s annual report etc. This recognition apart cash rewards can become a good retention strategy.

Especially in trying circumstances, it is important to recognize and appreciate team members' accomplishments since it raises morale and inspires them. A pleasant work atmosphere is fostered as a result of their efforts and devotion being reinforced. Workers are more likely to be satisfied with their jobs and stay with the company if they feel appreciated and involved. When funds are tight, this becomes even more important since keeping good employees is a top priority. Recognizing and rewarding accomplishments motivates individuals to maintain a high level of performance and pushes the team to overcome obstacles and achieve their goals. Less money means more stress and uncertainty.

Members of the team may experience financial insecurity and worries about their future with the company if they anticipate layoffs or decreased hours as a consequence of budget cutbacks. Workloads for surviving employees tend to rise as a consequence of lower resources or smaller teams caused by budget constraints.
