Consistency is often the best thing for a team. More so than perfection. When people are diving into code from scratch, they don't want surprises, they just want to read and modify. Programming often turns into an art form and we try to make code as beautiful as possible. As a result, we let it get too personal. That being said, beauty is subjective, so it's worth trying to look at it from an outside perspective.

Talk. Speak. Discuss. Feedback isn't meant to feed your ego or affirm your beliefs. It's more often than not the exact opposite. A different perspective, not always a fresh one though, or something you missed. Remember that.
