It's important also to be able to read these gestures and adapt quickly to be able to get the results that you want. However, in my experience, being warm and receptive really breaks down such barriers. Then it is upto the interviewer to find out if there is really a valuable potential employee hiding behind that difficult facade. If he/she still remains difficult, I would not waste too much time on such a person.

If the interview becomes unproductive, calmly wrap up the discussion by saying, “It seems we’ve covered a lot of ground today. Thank you for your time, we’ll be in touch.”
