Encouraging open dialogue is essential, as it allows each coach to express their thoughts in a safe environment. Focusing on common goals can help shift the conversation from conflict to collaboration. Facilitating compromise is also important, as it allows both parties to feel heard and respected. Ultimately, guiding them toward a shared understanding can lead to more productive outcomes

When faced with coachees who disagree on a topic, there are two scenarios. 1) If a coachee presents a broad topic at the beginning, I encourage them to be more specific. If I sense an underlying agenda, I might say, “Hey coachee, I hear you mentioning topic XYZ, and my intuition prompts me to check its connection with ABC.” This invites exploration while keeping the focus on their agenda. 2) If we’ve started coaching and the coachee begins to diverge, it’s my responsibility to steer them back. I’d ask, “How is this connected to your topic?” This helps refocus the discussion, ensuring they explore what truly matters.
-
*Active Listening - Encourage each coachee to express their views fully without interruption. - Summarize their points to show understanding and validate their feelings. *Identify Shared Goals - Ask both parties about their ultimate objectives related to the topic.?- Highlight any common goals or values that align with their individual perspectives. *Facilitate Open Dialogue - Create a safe space for discussion. Set ground rules for respectful communication. - Encourage coachees to ask clarifying questions to better understand each other’s viewpoints.

First, listen actively. Try to understand the reasons for disagreement, if wrong assumptions were made. Miscommunication sometimes happen. Once confirmed, try to bring a practical example of the topic. If after all that your coachee still disagrees, respect her/his point of view and move on, agree to disagree. No need to agree on all subjects!

When coachees disagree on a coaching topic, I’ll start by encouraging each person to share their views. I’ll listen carefully and help them see where they might have common interests. By focusing on shared goals, we can find solutions that work for everyone. This way, they can learn to respect each other's opinions and work together better.
