Being an Electrical Engineer I learnt the areas which are co-related or cross function with my assignments. I understood things in depth how they perform, how people react, how people want to be assigned the same role or co-role. In my career path I got the opportunity to work in the role which i learn as a cross function. According to my experience every person should learn all the work happening around him, do them, all the work is done as a team and if you have experience of all the work then you can build a good team. Needless to say, you have to express yourself in your new field and show how much hunger you have to perform.

Make sure those shared & relevant experiences are prepared and ready to include in your responses to the anticipated questions. Obviously very important to do extensive research and show that you’re not starting at zero, and can/will come up to speed quickly.

Knowledge is the great equalizer when experience is limited. Before walking/logging into that interview, become a sponge. Absorb everything—industry trends, competitor insights, company culture, and role-specific challenges. Then, when you sit down to talk, don’t just regurgitate facts—connect the dots. How does this company fit into the broader industry landscape? What opportunities do you see that others might miss? Your research isn’t just about showing you’re prepared—it’s about proving you’ve already begun thinking like an insider. This depth of knowledge is what separates those who are interested from those who are committed.

Researching before and interview is the most underrated skill! When you are going for an interview - Make sure you research everything about the organization, panelist and most importantly research everything what is written in the JD. Read Job description thoroughly and prepare yourself accordingly!
