I ask everyone in my firm -- even the ones not working on AI projects -- to complete the Stanford University course on machine learning taught by Andrew Ng. It provides a solid foundation in the basics, it includes hands on build exercises that can still be completed by non-coders, and does a very good job of explaining not only the techniques but their limitations. Highly recommended.

This will be the hardest part. Be real, you are a pioneer, like the one using photoshop in the 90's or a pen tablet, those were called fraud and thief. A big part of the creative community don't think you can be a creative or a designer using AI. So you better be ready for a lot of critics and people trying to tell you are a fraud. Be strong, in fact you are an adventurer way ahead of your time like used to be the first designer using computers. It's not easy, but you are not alone, try to follow and find other artist using AI with the optic that AI is only a tool like a graphic tablet. Remember that you are the creative not the machine, AI is a shortcut allowing to actually deliver art. Be nice with yourself and don't listen to the noise.

If you are a designer that knows how to use AI and embed it into your daily routine, you'll run circles around someone without design experience trying to use AI for the same tasks. Your specialization is still your differentiator, so don't run from that. When you think about concepts like human-centered design, there are many ways to use your design skills to help embed AI into other apps and tools. Making AI approachable is key for adoption. Scaled adoption is the only way companies are going to transform. Also, thinking a bit out of the box, there is going to be a ton of work around designing new business processes, where to put AI, human-in-the-loop, etc. Maybe not traditional "design", but certainly requires a design mindset!

Breaking into AI is risky business, but very lucrative if you can pull it off without getting caught. At a bare minimum, I’d recommend a balaclava, black or at least dark clothing, and ninja shoes. A grappling hook and/or suction cups on your hands and feet for climbing glass walls can be helpful, but should be considered advanced tools. Attire like high heels, cowboy hats, or sequins should be avoided. Good luck your with your first forays into breaking into AI!

I wouldn't recommend breaking into AI. Breakdance is a physically demanding style that you shouldn't approach casually. There is a risk of severe injury, especially if you're making leaps you're not qualified for. I suggest waltzing into AI instead. It's less strenuous, more beginner-friendly, and you'll look more sophisticated doing it.
