If facing a problem, Message the problem to 20 different data scientists, 0.05 probability of getting a reply is good if your problem is getting solved, I, myself, get queries and i schedule meetings with random analysts, scientist. It helps in learning. Participate on kaggle competition which is another great tool for virtual collaboration and increase your knowledge. But If you have to engage inside your company for collaboration, I believe every company have a setup for online meetings zoom, slack call, share your screen and everything can be discussed. Github provide a good feature of fork, Can be used.
