You need to become an SME as much as posible and find problems to solve that have the highest value to the company. Be skilled enough to build end to end solutions that need little intervention and produce visible, tangible improvements. In order to do that, you will need to first understand your internal stakeholders, their pain points and needs.

As data analysts we are used to seeing numbers, charts with similar colours and fancy treemaps but often the enabling factor for key stakeholders is taking all that information and giving quick punchy insights to help make decisions on the fly. In my experience, it's important to try to limit the amount of changes that are being made at any one time since this can make it hard to measure the impact of each individual change. That's easier said than done as businesses often have to act dynamically to maintain their market position, cashflow, unexpected supply chain constraints etc. In which case, you may need to be able to fallback to core metrics with as much supporting data analysis that makes sense in a meaningful way.

I have always found it useful to have a third person perspective on my work, something you might miss is easy to spot by the other person. This does two things, brings a new perspective to the table and helps balance the burn out too.

Use visuals like infographics (AI makes them accessible) to simplify complex topics. Reach varied audiences through multiple channels - email, intranet, messaging apps. Embrace public speaking - present insights at company meetings, events, universities to position yourself as an authority. Persistence is key - show up regularly, be a reliable source.

One way to be perceived as a thought leader at your company is to present what you have been doing. Remember be 'loud' when it comes to your work and accomplishments - especially if you work remote. Ask your manager/boss/client if you can hold a quick meeting to show what you have done and found. Display why this has been useful and and how this can be applied. Doing this will help propel you into the spotlight in front of your managers and peers.

Data analytics is a constantly evolving field where new tools and techniques are constantly emerging. Creating a space to share knowledge with your team is very useful, from very small tips to the latest developments in the industry. It will improve your team's collaboration skills, strengthen their technical capabilities and is an excellent setting to drive innovation.

In many organizations, business or data analysts operate behind the scenes and the only evidence of our work might be a dashboard or a few graphs in a presentation - the end result is most often what broader audiences will see. On the same lines of business goals is business problem statement, the success of the project boils down to this, how well did you understand, state and have aligned the business problem, what's the business telling you and not telling you, sometimes business defines the problem incorrectly. The way you can mitigate the risk of developing the wrong solution is to specify outcomes you would deliver by solving the business problem, by doing this the business can look ahead and align if the outcomes you are trying to achieve by solving that specific problem addresses the solution.. it is an iterative approach, don't try to build the perfect solution right away!

Data analysts often stress the importance of gathering extensive data. However, the key isn't just quantity but also focusing on crucial data points. Having a wealth of data lacking the right insights can lead to misguided analyses. Thus, it's essential not only to grasp the available data but also to consider what might be missing, including negative cases and other variables.
