Videos are no longer the gold standard as audio leads the pack for instructional delivery with most Gen Zers. But when making a video, refrain from talking head videos of the instructor just talking or worse - a recording an instructor in a lecture hall. Provide hooks throughout the videos and signpost learning points throughout. Keep it pacey by editing out the 'um's and the 'like's and spend no more than 90 seconds per screenshot/visual. Teach content through storytelling techniques with emotions and a plot. Ensure learner interaction with incbreakers, polls, group discussions and interactive methodologies appropriate to the type of content being taught. Animations are great for showing the steps of a procedure, process or mechanism.

To create an interactive learning experience, you have to use online tools. You could try using videos and animations. Videos are a good way to show your students instead of just explaining to them. It would be easier for them to understand if they were to see it for themselves. Animations can attract your students to pay attention to your lessons. This would be especially helpful if you have students who are under the age of 12.

The latest data in the Time for Class 2023 study shows that a whopping 75% of Gen Z learners listen to audio, choosing it OVER video for learning. Most podcast listeners say that they listen to podcasts that teach them about topics they wish they'd learned in school. When using audio, teach content using storytelling techniques to keep listeners engaged. And since most Gen Zers listen to recordings at >1 speed, maintain a good pace of content. Jumpcut/Edit out the umms and the 'like's and the 'you know's because these learners are laser-focused. For live sessions, do NOT insist on cameras being on - this is more distracting and overwhelming for neurodivergent learners. Caption your sessions and share links to recorded lectures.

I've found that with many dyslexic and ADHD students, while they may prefer audio, they won't always pick up the information particularly well that way. Many neurodivergent students benefit from visuals in addition to audio. It may be helpful to provide a script for audios and encourage reading along while listening for students who benefit from visuals.

Podcasts and audio clips are the best interactive tools especially to teach a language. Students get familiar with different accents of various authentic languages. They also come across many phrases idioms that enhance their contextual understanding. Listening skill is one of the most important skills of a language. They listen, understand and try to interpret. Without feeling any pressure of time bound class, they can listen as per their own flexibility. Games can also be considered a good interactive tool as that focuses on problem solving quality.

In my experience, learners enjoy having various ways to access the same information and perhaps even allow it to be explored in a more in-depth way, whether through podcasts, music, videos, or cartoons....the possibilities are endless! But it's important we ensure the content we choose to use is purposeful and has a reason to be there. It's no good putting on a fanfare for our learners if they take nothing away from it. It's also important to note that, as someone has already mentioned, if you have dyslexia or ADHD like me, you need to ensure all of your learners have the opportunity to access that material in an easy and engaging way. Visuals and audio are great but perhaps transcripts or related imagery alongside it would make it better.

With the prevalence of social media platforms and websites that specialize in sharing infographics, students can easily access visually appealing content that enhances their understanding of subjects ranging from science to history to economics.

Infographics and charts are also really helpful if you want to create an interactive learning experience. These are things that can help you to deliver your lessons better. Infographics can help you to explain your lessons. You can include a short explanation alongside the visuals. This would also be able to attract your student's attention. Charts are of great help especially if you are teaching maths. You can explain to them the meaning of each figure and data by showing them the charts.

Using infographics and charts is not only paramount to analyzing data, but also for reaching a diverse set of students with different learning needs and styles. Some students learn best by hearing or reading content- but for most it comes down to that visual element! Teachers can support this by using tools such as Canva, Google Sheets, and Microsoft Excel to make charts. Graphics can also be made on Canva, Google Draw, and Microsoft SmartArt tool. Adobe also has lots of options for this. One of the visual tools I love using with students is Kanban Boards- it gives a visual flow of information for work in progress. Then students can use this infographic to focus their efforts and stay on task.

We use websites like ThingLink and Iorad to create interactive learning diagrams and tutorials. We believe that people learn by doing, so offering ways for students to actively engage with and choose the direction of their learning is critical to the experience we create. Plus, we have to strive to create an experience that is drastically different (and better) than what we could offer on paper.

Personally, I’m a fan of games and puzzles actually created by the students themselves within the objectives at hand. Once the foundational learning objectives have been determined students may offer individualized expansion. Working in teams for that expansion allows a flexible setting with materials and permissible technology, not to mention creativity. Good rubrics creates the standard. Hold them to the standard whatever that might be.

Games are fantastic as they can model real world issues in an easier format. For example, in our Environmental Science classes we've been playing this game focused on bringing water to drier regions of the world. This was a great way to introduce the key components of unit 4.

You could also include games and puzzles to make your students participate in your classes. This is so that they are willing to take part in the lessons instead of just sitting there listening to their lessons. Through games, you can not only encourage them to participate, but you can also have a rough evaluation of them. It's like killing two birds with one stone. Through puzzles, you would be able to help develop their problem-solving skills as wll as to let them put their knowledge to practice. You also would be able to encourage them to cooperate with each other.

We had an amazing ESL instructor in Graduate School. She gave us a task: interactive learning that students can use. I took "sausage links" to make examples of sentences. The number of sausages were the words of the sentences. This was a way for the student to make certain that the necessary words(some kind of subject,(verb,) (and any modifiers or object). Then we did spelling, and I did "bones". It was huge beef bones that I used a "z" like break to show the syllables". I cut the "breaks" and mixed them up, so our "students" would make words by putting the syllables together: "Car na tion". I used my middle school drawings of "diagramming sentences" to show where modifiers go and frags and phrases. Worksheets can be colorful and fun!

Furthermore, these platforms allow students to showcase their skills and talents, such as writing, poetry, storytelling, and online debating, with confidence. However, it is essential to provide students with guidance on the appropriate use of these platforms to ensure that they use them properly.

Blogs and forums foster diverse perspectives, community building, and real-world applications. But, a potential con is the lack of scientific rigor in some content, requiring students to critically assess the reliability of information.

I feel students learn when they actually experience everything, so the amalgamation of videos, animation, games and real life experiences would be the best teaching resources for any teacher.

What about just not using anything? Make it interactive by designing a classroom experience in which students discuss with their classmates? Maybe using board games to understand topics. For example The Game wingspan to understand bird species and their impact within an ecosystem, or the game Photosynthesis. Technology is great but lets not forget how nice it is when we put our phones and laptops away for a bit.

Interactive is the key word, so each student picks his/her own way to interact! My students love personalization of interaction and meaningful interaction, so they may choose favorite classical music ?? in symphonic or ballet or opera form, or the music could be rock or guitar or a favorite group or the student’s own compositions and instruments. The interaction could be a poem that is beloved or just written original or a quote from a great play or movie or book. The first interaction mat be a get acquainted excercise that is memorable and one students mostly value.

As an online tutor/teacher, I rely heavily on interactive materials to engage my students effectively. The one resource I use most often is interactive whiteboards. I find interactive whiteboards indispensable. There are many options to choose from, some paid, some free. IWBs allow me to explain concepts while students interact with activities I create, fostering engagement and understanding. The versatility caters to diverse learning styles, enhancing the effectiveness of online teaching.
