You’re a consulting team leader. How can you create a more diverse and inclusive team?

In my experience, diversity and inclusion involve assembling a team of individuals from various walks of life. The world is vast, filled with talent from every corner. The key is to unite visionaries from all over the globe. These individuals may come from different backgrounds, cultures, religions, and more. They are committed to promoting diversity and inclusion. This, in essence, is what diversity and inclusion truly represent.

Diversity and inclusion are intrinsically linked and you must ensure to include identity and cognitive elements into your diversity definition (i.e gender, race etc as well as neurological i.e neurotypical and neurodivergent). Inclusion is ensuring that all the diverse members of the organisation, team, society feel included, empowered, understood etc.. It is a wide ranging and far reaching topic and circular structures and management philosophies tend to enable more effectively than triangle based (power/control) styles - just from my experience.

I, for one, advocate diversity. This is because I believe there is room for creativity, innovation, unity, perspectives and optimal decision making. No two persons are the same, it is our unique abilities combined together that makes a generation wealthy. Inclusion also helps segmented individuals feel valued and respected, for everyone to lead a better life and make the society better.
