To engage new suppliers there are actions to complete before awarding a business, for instance perform an audit & technical visit to their facilities, either based in ISO/IATF/VDA depends on the business you are, include an investigation about their financials/sales/customer/etc. Once you have a score to classify it as approved, have a technical review of specs by engineering/quality both parties, document outcomes. If finally all is green light to proceed they should sign a nomination/contract letter, where you have to include project milestones, requirements, quality expectations, penalizations, etc. But the most important you need to assign key team player to follow up progress and communication flows seamless, working together.

We use a thorough approach when qualifying new suppliers to protect our contracts. This includes financial checks, site visits to gain firsthand insight into their operations, and trial orders to test performance. We also ensure our contracts are clear and comprehensive, conduct risk assessments, protect intellectual property, verify compliance, and seek ethical alignment. This process helps minimize risks to our supply chain and contractual obligations.

Onboarding new suppliers benefits organizations but with risks involved of due diligence is not performed. Things to consider while onboarding a new supplier. - Shortlist suppliers who aligns with your organization goals. - Asses previous balance sheets, P&L sheets. Do some math for Quick Ratio, Inventory ratios and profit ratio for your analysis. - Have all certificates, licenses audited while onboarding (depends on industries) - Provide some self assessment sheet to review their capabilities, if need audit their facility before starting of a project. - Contract in place to safeguard yourselves and as well as your company if anything happens in an abnormal situation.
