As a FM freelancer, you might face competition from other contractors, agencies, or in-house staff who offer similar or cheaper solutions. To stand out from the crowd, you need to market yourself effectively, showcase your portfolio and testimonials, network with potential clients and partners, and deliver high-quality work that meets or exceeds expectations. 2 Managing projects

Another challenge for FM freelancers is managing multiple projects with different scopes, deadlines, and stakeholders. You need to have excellent organizational, communication, and problem-solving skills to handle the various tasks and issues that arise in each project. You also need to be able to balance your workload and prioritize your activities, as well as set realistic and clear expectations with your clients and subcontractors. You should use tools and software that help you plan, track, and report on your projects, as well as automate and streamline some of the administrative and operational aspects of your work.

Freelancing in FM would be a different ball game, one need to have all the below specialities to succeed A ) Good experience in wide scope of FM services be it soft& hard services / manpower supply/ landscaping/ pest management etc. B ) Good industry market knowledge C ) Good clientele D ) Good selling power ,go getter approach E ) never fail to any committed task , this will create the trust and more job from misc stakeholders

Every freelancing comes with risk reward ratio so risk is high in initial stage so one should assess the market and then make connection with clients and use tools to generate leads for projects/ services. You should be good at selling no matter what the service is. Managing multiple projects is a hectic task as it has deadlines, challenges during project, manpower issues. Freelancing needs lot of efforts so one should choose it wisely as in FM vendor has to manage compliance ,payroll , manpower and services too. But if managed properly then if is a most rewarding career

You also need to have clear and detailed contracts that outline the scope, terms, and conditions of your services, as well as contingency plans and backup options in case of emergencies.

As a FM freelancer, you need to keep up with the latest trends, technologies, and standards in your field. You need to constantly update and expand your skills and knowledge to stay competitive and relevant in the market. You also need to demonstrate your expertise and credibility to your clients and peers. To achieve this, you need to invest in your professional development and learning, such as taking courses, certifications, or workshops, reading books and blogs, attending webinars and events, and joining associations and communities. You also need to seek feedback and mentorship from other FM professionals who can help you grow and improve.

5 Maintaining well-being

As a FM freelancer, you might face stress, isolation, or burnout from working alone, remotely, or under pressure. You need to take care of your physical, mental, and emotional well-being, as well as your personal and social life. You need to set boundaries and limits on your work hours and availability, as well as schedule regular breaks and vacations. You also need to have a comfortable and ergonomic workspace, as well as a healthy and balanced lifestyle. You also need to have a support network of family, friends, and colleagues who can offer you advice, encouragement, and companionship.

Freelancing in FM can be rewarding and fulfilling, but it also comes with risks and challenges that you need to be prepared for. By being aware of these risks and taking steps to mitigate them, you can increase your chances of success and satisfaction as a self-employed FM professional.
