You’re considering a career in BPO finance and accounting. What do you need to know?

BPO F&A has a few different workstreams under it - namely Procure to Pay, Order to Cash, Record to Report and FP&A. Within these there are different roles comprising of Transaction processing, reporting, subject matter experts, training, leading teams, managing clients, working with transformation and transition teams, developing capabilities and so on. The starting point for a fresh graduate would be to work in the Invoice processing team and then gradually move to the other roles. In general the order of complexity is P2P < O2C < R2R < FP&A. It's good to have a knowledge of atleast two different workstreams in order to develop one's leadership.

F&A outsourcing companies refer themselves as KPO as they offer knowledge and expertise. Key skills for entry-level roles include: - Good understanding of accounting principles and ability to learn and apply global practices - Continuous learning and research skills - Accuracy and attention to detail: Meticulousness with numbers - Advance excel and financial reporting - Ability to manage stringent monthly, quarterly, and yearly deadlines - Effective communication skills - Exposure to software like QB, Netsuite, SAP, Xero etc. Qualifications: While CPA, CMA, or ACCA are advantageous, the Enrolled Agent certification is also in high demand. CA Inter (IPCC) with articleship experience also aligns well and demonstrates success in this field.

Things to consider for F&A career in BPO 1. If you are joining corporate F&A team then have professional Qualification like Charter accountant, Company Secretary, Company Finance Analyst, Cost Analyst, MBA in finance, Business Accounting and Taxation, Certified Financial Planner, Wealth Management, B.Com (B.Ed.), Taxation law 2. If you are joining international F&A team then have professional qualification like Certified Public Accountant, Certified Financial Analysis, General Accounting Practice, Forensic Accountant, International financial Reporting Standards This is as per my understanding, please add or modify.
