Just because you're "agile" doesn't mean that you have a magic bullet for quality. By shipping code frequently so that users can get their hands on it sooner you will more than likely get early feedback that things are wrong. The challenge then is to ensure that you are able to address that feedback whilst also continuing to develop new functionality too. I've seen many times teams having to employ a "focus on defects" - this should be a sign that your overall quality is off the mark and you are getting more bugs to contend with that you really ought to.

I've found that people find it hard to grasp why a short feedback cycle would improve quality. This does indeed happen: as the amount of changed code in an iteration decreases, there is less to test, less dependencies, and less need to do fixes. Such positive cycle gives the team more time to refactor and automate, making them able to speed up the cycle even more.

I think this is probably the core of agility. The ability to change faster than your competition and therefore be able to deliver products that delight your customers, while other companies are stuck in their change process.

In the last5 years, I am working as an individual company, consulting and teaching in agile methodologies, and in my experience I have often found that the risk management is one of the most valued benefits of a proper agile implementation. Being able to quickly put hypothesis to test, all project activities can become small bets that, if approached with an empirical mindset, will bear deeper understanding and immediate feedback.
