Design engineering is a field that requires a great deal of technical knowledge and expertise. However, when it comes to management skills, engineers are usually stuck behind their desks, with little opportunity to gain practical experience. To acquire the necessary skills, engineers need to know by registering for managerial courses which will keep them up-to-date about new managerial tools and daily experiences with different disciplines (coordination) as well as site tours. Hence, it is a challenging task to develop managerial skills in design engineers. Given these circumstances, certain criteria can be followed to help overcome these challenges and acquire the necessary skills.

2 Set specific and realistic goals

Once you have a clear picture of your strengths and weaknesses, you can set specific and realistic goals for your professional development. For example, you may want to improve your presentation skills, learn a new software, or take on more responsibility for a project. You should write down your goals, make them SMART (specific, measurable, achievable, relevant, and time-bound), and track your progress regularly.
