Empowering your team members and trusting in their abilities will create a sense of ownership. We tend to work harder for something of our own design or for something we think of as our own design. Just as a set of bumpers in bowling, a manager should only correct when the team member is headed for the gutter. If the ball looks to be headed for the pins, a manager must let things take their course in the way of the team member’s choosing.

In my experience, try not micromanage and give your team autonomy to make decisions and manage their time if you have provided the right tools to do the job. Trust them to get the tasks done, that’s why you hired them. Always be available to support them if they need guidance or advice. Be nice, supportive and honest but don’t be a pushover. Be positive and make recognition a key part of your role; a little goes a long way !
