You can build your brand without talking about yourself. What you say, how you say it helps people get a sense of who you are. Ask for feedback about what they would like to hear.

Stay Authentic: Be genuine in your presentation and messaging, as audiences appreciate authenticity and can often spot insincerity. Focus on Value: Ensure your content consistently provides value to listeners, whether through insights, entertainment, or education. Know Your Audience: Understand your target audience's interests and preferences, tailoring your content to meet their expectations without alienating them. Avoid Over-Promotion: While it's important to promote yourself and your brand, ensure it doesn’t overwhelm the content or come off as self-serving. Engage with Feedback: Listen to audience feedback and adapt accordingly, showing that you value their opinions and want to meet their needs.

To avoid turning off your audience while building your personal brand through podcasting, focus on providing value first. Make sure each episode is centered around content that educates, entertains, or solves a problem for your listeners, rather than solely promoting yourself. Keep the self-promotion subtle and relevant, tying it naturally into the conversation without overshadowing the main topic. Additionally, listen to audience feedback and adjust if they feel you're too self-focused. Maintaining a balance between showcasing your expertise and delivering valuable content keeps your audience engaged.

A lot of podcasters go after quantity, discounting quality. I believe that building a strong brand can't tolerate a mediocre production even if you're just starting out. For my podcast, and for my clients' ones, we use high quality video production, impeccable cover art, and immaculate shorts creation. If you convey professional looks, people start treating you with respect, which contributes to building a robust brand right out of the gates.

Get some basic software (I love Descript) to edit out your umms and ahhs and weird speech patterns. We all have them and may not be aware of them until we hear the recording. But cleaning that up helps you sound more professional and definitely more tolerable as you win over new listeners!
