Picture my portfolio as a smorgasbord of writing delights! From sizzling tech blogs to elegant fashion prose, I've whipped up a feast for the eyes and minds of readers. Just like a master chef curates a menu to tantalize taste buds, I've crafted a variety of pieces to suit different palates and preferences. Oh, and don't forget to sprinkle in some SEO wizardry and a dash of wit – it's the secret sauce that keeps readers coming back for seconds!

I started my writing career as a magazine editor and then published consumer books. I got a couple of academic writing gigs and then got into grant writing. I have yet to get into blogging or SEO-driven assignments, but it's easy to switch gears if you're a disciplined writer. It's not rocket science! Every writing assignment is different, so as lovely as a portfolio might be, it doesn't tell the hiring manager what your process is, which is far more important than any writing sample.

I’ve said this countless times. Your portfolio is your most valuable asset as a freelancer. My portfolio always speaks for me and has helped me to land a lot of gigs. Even reviews from my past clients are in my portfolio and all these go a long way in helping me build trust.

Absolutely entertain your readers with an amusing story at the beginning of the piece if possible. Engagement early on is hugely important. Humour is one of the easiest ways to captivate your audience

The best way is to tell your process but... Do you believe a person who just brag about achievement or process without actually proving it? Of course NOT And that's why whenever you want to tell them that you're versatile Then tell them your process And back it with proofs Show them how you'll handle it And back it with proofs These proofs can be previous job testimonials, or in the form of portfolio etc So the hiring team trusts you more

Every single individual is unique. Give 3 chefs the same ingredients and time and the taste of their dishes won't match with each other. That's how writers are different from each other. The process of one writer can't be entirely similar to another one. That's your USP, use it to your advantage.

Armed with tools like Feedly and Pocket, I devour articles faster than a hungry hippo at a buffet – all in the name of staying ahead of the curve and delivering fresh, engaging content to my readers.

Show flexibility of thought. Curiosity is a willingness to delve into uncomfortable and unknown territories while maintaining an open mind. To be versatile is a state of mind that will reflect in your writing. Words are now within the dominion of AI, but real curiosity is a human reflection. Remember when accessing AI, it's limitations show in the writing world. Writing is an art layered in human experience and emotions.

Demonstrate your willingness to learn and adapt by being open to new writing challenges and opportunities. Express your eagerness to take on diverse writing projects and contribute to the organization in various ways.

I would chip in ?? talks about my personal investments that helps me be a versatile writer. Talks about habits such as reading book & articles and listening to podcast by experts. This is just to highlight that you consume high quality content (and make sure you actually do ??) because you can't give what you don't have. I see creating content like molding. The quantity and quality of clay you have plays a huge role in determining the quality and quantity of molds you can produce. In clearer words, the quality and quantity of content you consume, affects the quantity and quality of content you can produce.

Who is your target audience? What tone and style resonate best with them? And most importantly, how can I help you achieve your content goals? Asking questions is like putting your best foot forward. It shows you are interested and your interest will definitely spark the company's interest in you. If you have passed the first test of having a good portfolio and sharing how you adapt to work and work schedule. Asking questions, I mean meaningful question relevant to the company's growth will definitely make you stand out. Your personality is uncovered and doing this presents you as a professional.

Don't ask general questions. Make sure you've done some research about their industry before you get on a call with them. It will help you ask informed questions. Once you're on a call with them, talk about their audience and be as specific as you can. If they can see that you know where to focus on when talking about their audience, and understand the benefit you're selling, whether or not you have previous experience in the field becomes irrelevant. Just make sure to actually put your claims to action and follow a detailed research process like 1. Jobs To Be Done interviews with their previous clients 2. reading literature on the topic 3. social listening 4. competitor analysis
