In my experience bridging products between different interaction paradigms (focus-driven on TV, indirect manipulation on the computer, direct manipulation on mobile), there are a couple of heuristics for touch-driven user interfaces, that manifest to be true — empirically within multiple usability studies, customer's feedback and with theory on the OS's guidelines. On mobile design, you can assume the following: 1) People scroll and swipe very easily — no need to be concerned about above-the-fold web theories. 2) Touch brings a much broader audience to the table — kids in a very young age can use mobile products. 3) Some features in tablet landscape require a different approach from Portrait mobile. 4) Read and understand: HIG and MD.
