Product stability & customer feedback do not have to be mutually exclusive lists, so this question is sort of mis-leading. Early on in my career, I did use three different backlogs and pick from them to continue work on the three "different" tracks. However, the more I think about it, the more I believe it needs to all be able to connect to a business outcome and goal we are working towards, whether it is a stability feature or specific customer feedback.

One thing I think is important to take into account is the technical impact, we cannot think of a new feature/ improvement without taking into account our current tech scenario and what would come new with the new addition.. For example, we might think of a great new setting for the user that would penalize the app performance unless we introduce a new technology to handle x amount of incoming requests, and how long would that take to be developed? Is if something needed or is it just a nice to have? These are key questions I would add as part of the prioritization exercise.

Its always beneficial to have some kind of a metric like “feature score” that would evaluate and justify the need for incorporating the feature into the roadmap for the foreseeable future. Some of the key elements to be considered are: 1. Business Value - is the value applicable to more than one customer? 2. Effort - How much of man hours/storypoints are needed? 3. Feasibility - is this something which does or doesn’t open a can of worms ??

Upon gathering feedback, map that to key elements of product stability. Key elements include but are not limited to: - Reliability: consistent performance with high uptime (SW, HW) - Durability: long-lasting and resistant to wear and tear (HW) - Error handling (SW) - Load handling (SW, HW) - Compatibility (SW, HW) - Crash rate (SW) - etc., Based on the product, whether it is Software (SW) or Hardware (HW), prioritize the elements using user impact, CSAT etc.,

Prioritize based on customer value, alignment with product goals, and feasibility. This approach ensures resources are allocated effectively to deliver the most impactful enhancements.

Multiple prioritization frameworks are available to a PM. Choose the right one based on your product. Other frameworks beyond RICE (Reach, Impact, Confidence, Effort): - Kano model (satisfaction vs implementation) - The MoSCoW (Must have, Should have, Could have, Won't have) method - Eisenhower Matrix (Urgent-Important Matrix)

Once we have a clear understanding of customer feedback then we can create a prioritized roadmap. Categorize features and improvements based on their impact on stability, frequency of requests, and alignment with business goals. Use frameworks like the MoSCoW method (Must have, Should have, Could have, Won't have) to rank features. This roadmap should balance quick wins with longer-term projects, ensuring continuous enhancements to product stability while addressing urgent customer concerns.
