How apt this question is being asked in LinkedIn. There are several networking platforms online, and I'd personally use LinkedIn in my effort to maximize my networking reach. First of all, update your profile. That's the foundation of your personal branding. Then you should work on your activity level in LinkedIn, to create your unique online persona and to establish your credibility on the areas of your expertise. Post regularly substantively, and invite engagement. When people do react, or reply, to your posts, do engage and connect with them. If possible, carry the engagement into your offline sphere too if possible. Online interactions only go so far, and physical interactions do more to establish trust.

I think the best way to expand your networking reach is to be genuinely interested in what others post. You can show your interest by providing a thoughtful comment to his/her post. My own network expanded exponentially when I was focusing more on others than myself.

Using LinkedIn is very powerful. If you have a business idea then immediately build your network around it. If it’s something you will launch then don’t hesitate. I advised this to an entrepreneur the other day. They are launching a new product in 6 months. I advised they research, connect, engage with anyone who could be a potential customer, supplier or advocate. Build your network asap because then you have a captive network to market to later. But, be authentic. No sales pitches. A genuine good solid product does not need this. Give a lot too. It’s a two way street in building a network. It’s not all about you.
