To achieve career success, it’s essential to set goals that align with your long-term dreams. Start by dreaming big—envision where you want to be in 10 or 20 years. Create a roadmap with short-term and mid-term goals, such as gaining relevant experience, acquiring necessary certifications, and networking with industry leaders. People say that if you are easily achieving your goals - you are not dreaming big enough. So when you set your career goals, do not restrict yourselves to what is achievable. Some ways to get started could be: 1. Write down the Big Dream after the activity has been completed. If Possible, consider a different flip chart. 2. Break it down into smaller chunks which are SMART in nature. Be specific, write down the timelines, milestones. 3. Mention the ways you will celebrate once you achieve those mini milestones as you cherish the journey towards achieving the dream. 4. This entire process and activity gives you a sense of purpose and direction to achieving the "Big Dream"

A journey of a thousand miles starts with a single step. When the journey is long it does not help to be overawed by the long path ahead. Instead focus on only the next step and the one after that. Create milestones, celebrate small wins and do everything possible to make the journey enjoyable.

Most people have aspirations but not the awareness to understand where they stand in terms of skills. A skills audit is necessary to understand the gaps between current capabilities and what you need to achieve your objectives.

After you break down your career goals, do an honest assessment with yourself to determine if you have all the skills necessary to get to the next level. However, don't let perfection be the enemy of good enough. If you lack a skill, map out how you will achieve the skill and what you minimally need to get to the next step. We are lucky to have access to information more than ever, leverage that. Websites like Coursera and resources like the library and ChatGPT are great resources to get you started on learning the skills to get you to the next level of your career ascension.

You can be what you can see. Surround yourself with people who have achieved success in the area you want to grow your career. Remember, to seek advice from peers, too. Someone already successful likely didn't incorporate generative AI into their strategy and may be limited in counsel on how to incorporate AI into goals. A peer, however, can provide you with real-time lessons learned in the current environment that you can leverage. Network with people who share similar values. We are all on journeys and where we are today likely won't be where we are in the future. If you share the same core values, you'll grow and evolve together.
