Confidentiality is most definitely based on trust when it comes to providing healthcare. If a patient cannot trust their healthcare provider to protect the PHI then how can the provider expect the patient to be truthful. Instead the patient will be fearful and it will not be a good relationship and the patient’s care and then their health may be in jeopardy.
