budget is always an issue but in theatre we always look for solutions to fix the issues. it could be a new set piece or a flood light from the hardware store. We make the scene and add to the production.

Um cenógrafo pode exigir pe?as grandes e custosas e caberá ao produtor executivo acertar as contas e com isso entregar cenários, figurinos e ilumina??o, onde essa última poderá até ser ampliada para se ter um resultado final excelente.

I've mentioned this previously that it is imperative to not just understand the creative but to understand the creative intent. This shouldn't just be when budgets are tight but it will serve you well when they are. This will help you decide what you can let go of and what you absolutely need. It's also a great opportunity to try and think differently about how to realize certain physical aspects. Perhaps they can be more suggestive and allow the audience to do some of the work.

So true! Technology only on the service of story, and the simplest solution to achieve creative intent is usually the best (so long as it’s reliable)!

Technology can be a great tool, but only if it is serving the story. I've seen too many shows where a story has been created around using a fun toy. And many theatrical effects can be created without high end tech, they were for years and were very successful. I have been extremely impressed and moved in shows that used very basic, simple techniques with commitment from the cast. My rule of thumb for high end tech is to only use it if there is no other substitute.

Don't :-). We are living in a tech world - let's actually use it on the stage. We need new media to convey the story in the way the audience can relate to from their daily experience. On the other hand you can save on scenography by using video projection and lights in a creative way.

For more than three years, I built scenery for a company that never had cash to buy lumber or other materials. The designer was quite demanding, too. There was always a way to dismantle old pieces and put the materials back on stage in a new form. It takes time, but it does reduce the organization's carbon footprint!

I've always found that the place to start is with the initial budget and then set about generating a dream of how I could stage the play using that initial budget as the yardstick. This approach will be good for anyone lacking the chutzpah to solicit money. Plus it makes one not beholden. to others, who might, for their money, want to exercise more control over the production.
