Your team is struggling with morale. What can you do to turn things around?

Fostering a healthy work culture and transparency between management and employees can be the solution. A lot of times, subordinates cannot able to reach the higher management and they don’t receive a simple gesture even though they are working hard. This gap can be erased by organizing some employee engagement programmes. Besides, providing recognization at the right time not only when he decides to leave company also can change the morale dicision. People want to feel valued and appreciated. Recognition validates their efforts and also inspires them to continue giving their best, driving motivation and engagement.

Having a pathway to growth is key for high team morale. Everyone wants to feel valued in their organization. They also want to know that there are avenues for development. Promotional paths are one way, but other options such as learning paths, mentoring and continuing education/tuition reimbursement can show the company's interest in building up their employees.

When morale is low the tendency of leaders is to try to focus on the upside, trying to inject more optimism into the team. This results in the individuals on the team feeling worse and thinking " I must be the only one struggling" or "management does not understand what is going on with us." Instead, the leader should model and reinforce that it is OK to share real feelings and be genuine on this team. Also, they can encourage the team to support each other and to find things within their control to help make the situation at least marginally better.
