You know what? The best way to truly engage people is to be real, sincere, and vulnerable - not formulaic. It’s not intuitive - traditional leadership emphasizes stoicism and logic, but the best leaders you and know are likely the most human ones. Be honest. Be kind. Be sincere. People will naturally follow. It’s not yet my default, but I tried this on a post here today and it was so inspiring to see how humans came together over a personal tragedy!

Also, listening involves crediting each member for their unique ideas and work. It is not reducing the discourse to the "we" but respecting and saying the names of each person who did their part. Crediting, citing, respecting everyone's work rather than mixing and stirring everyone under the umbrella of inclusion with a faceless "we." Feedback is key!

In my opinion, the most important thing is feedback. Come back and tell your team what went wrong and what was good. Please be polite if there is a problem to discuss. Never forget that we are all human and sometimes we make mistakes. Why do I talk about problems and things that didn't go so well in a togetherness topic? Because of the whole perspective of team building. It's when you talk transparently and about the whole process that you can reach your team. That's the way to build loyalty. Help with problems and mention the good things. The secret is simply to make time for your colleagues. Of course, saying thank you has never hurt either ;-)
