To address resistance to feedback, it’s crucial to identify the root cause. In some cultures, such as in Asia, embarrassment or fear of hurting others may hinder open communication. Here’s how to encourage collaboration: 1. Anonymous Feedback: Use written or anonymous feedback to reduce confrontation and promote honesty. 2. Facilitation: Introduce a neutral facilitator to ask open-ended questions, creating a safe space for feedback. 3. Team Bonding: Strengthen team cohesion through bonding activities to build trust and openness. 4. Establish Norms: Set clear expectations that feedback is constructive and focused on improving ideas, not criticizing individuals. This approach addresses cultural sensitivities and fosters collaboration.

To create a collaborative team environment, focus on building trust and making everyone feel safe to share their thoughts. Hold regular feedback sessions where team members can speak up freely. Use simple techniques like starting with what’s working well before discussing improvements. Celebrate team successes and acknowledge individual contributions to show that every voice matters. This practical approach encourages open discussions and helps everyone feel more comfortable giving and receiving feedback.

Sometimes, to change something (due to the feedback) that has been there for a long time is hard. Moreover if that change will impact of how people do their things in daily basis. The long term solution is of course to find and address the root cause and find a way to make the change beneficial for all of the stakeholder. But unfortunately, sometimes time is not on our side. The short term solution is to provide the people with rewards (like hard cash, vacation, gadget, etc) if they can implement the feedback and achieve some kind of score or threshold of effectiveness in it.

An example that i've seen in some collaboration forums that there should be a leader, whether the role is facilitating the session or the role is basically a team leader that belongs in the team. This kind of person will encourage other team member to build culture of openness. But, this need to be supported by organization that support this way of collaboration. Without this, seems it could be difficult for employee to try new things, talk to others, and build task force to solve critical problems.
