Facing a journalist after a blunder is more about what you do rather than what you say. It's how we address the misunderstanding, how we course correct the misunderstanding, and how we recognize and expand the good we do. ?? Expedient action and a genuine explanation will go a long way with people.

Don’t over complicate things, and don’t waste time. Own up to it immediately, and offer to speak to their editor if that is required. Sometimes we make honest mistakes, and it’s okay. I would follow up with an email with the correct information and an apology.

Then, I’d provide the correct info, sprinkling in some fun insights about our project to re-engage them- it is vital to keep the mood light. Of course, I wouldn't be shy in sharing a behind-the-scenes look at our process, like giving a VIP tour of our crazy office.
