#1 rule of corporate America - praise publicly (and in written form), coach privately (and in non-written form). Amazing how many people don't understand that basic tenet. Good lesson for social media also! I have been told ad nauseam how many people LOVE the fact that I praise them publicly - through Slack/email/surfacing to their leadership/having customers write emails about them and sending them to me.

An exec I once worked for always started every meeting with a big "THANK YOU FOR ALL THAT YOU DO". I think that's critical as nobody's efforts should ever be taken for granted - all people at the workplace are just a volunteer army, act accordingly!

Helping with high-potential hires and giving them the coaching they need - or advocating for them to take on additional responsibility - is great, if that is indeed something that the team member would be open to. Don't open doors for them if they are comfortable in-role!

Very important to provide remuneration in some capacity, and there are always infinite # of means to do so (spot bonuses, all types of corporate awards, trophies, and the like).
