First, let's understand why they're advocating for that stack—it could be the best fit for the project, or maybe they’re more comfortable with it. If it truly is the best fit, then compromise makes sense. However, if it's about comfort, encourage them to see the value in learning a new stack, as it will add to their expertise. When I joined my first dev team, I thought excelling in the stack I already knew would be ideal, but quickly realized I needed to adapt to what the team was using. It was tough, but in the long run, it became a huge advantage for me.

One time at work, the management was delighted of the idea to use an open-source technology because it would be cheaper than the proprietary alternative. Nevertheless the support and maintenance costs of the open-source choice can be greater than the proprietary one. It is very important to understand if the open-source choice is backed by a striving community of developers.
