Company's long-term goal and vision doesn't change, the art of steering team member to see the full picture is to link the daily, weekly, monthly, yearly short-term goal directly into the contribution of the long-term goal. Create a winning mindset of knowing everything, however small we do today contributes to the success of the overall long-term goal. Find time to communicate and acknowledge progress, celebrate little success, it will go a long way in contributing to the long-term goal. Utilize company's performance management system to set clear yearly goals, frequent check-ins, mid-year review and year-end review and always allow reflection time to take a step-back and review the connection of current action towards future goals.

To shift a team from short-term gains to long-term success, start by defining a clear, compelling vision that aligns with their goals and emphasizes sustainable growth. Break down long-term goals into smaller milestones, giving the team a sense of progress. Adjust incentives to reward contributions that drive enduring success, linking rewards to long-term achievements. Equip the team with tools and training in strategic planning and sustainability. Finally, foster regular feedback and reflection to help them see the long-term impact of their work, encouraging a balanced approach to success.

The startup is to have a powerful focus on : A- Operations excellence primarily, yet keeping an engine that is focused on B- Foresight Whilst doing so, the vision is always key, associated with the “Strategy” based on the project phase! As much as the team is to align with focus onto operations, there has to be an arena for the foresight, scenario planning and strategic adjustment It got to be of less frequency in comparison to the operations “war room” approach

When a team is focused on short-term wins, guiding them towards sustainable success is essential. Start by setting clear, measurable long-term goals that outline how today’s actions contribute to lasting impact. Foster a growth mindset by encouraging ongoing learning and development, showing that these skills will drive future achievements. Finally, celebrate progress along the way by acknowledging milestones that align with these broader objectives, reinforcing the value of a long-term perspective.

Tie every short-term win to a larger vision. Show them how today’s results ladder up to a bigger picture, with real data that connects the dots. When we worked on a medical device prototype, I kept reinforcing how each minor improvement fed into our market advantage. No magic here—just map out the “why” and repeat it until they see it.
