Keeping your team motivated during uncertainties is important through encouragement, realignment of goals & vision and support mechanisms like training, tools, feedback and more. While these are standard practices to be followed I strongly believe giving a freehand to your team to come up with solutions at will is also important as it reiterates their ability & boosts their confidence to handle uncertain situations. As their leader, you stand behind them to ensure there are no mishaps but keep asking them to come up with out-of-the-box solutions to every problem statement every day, this motivates them to think more and find unique solutions that work even in the toughest situations. This will eventually make them independent & stronger

To keep my team engaged during tough times, I focus on clarity, support, and recognition. First, I remind them of our shared vision and goals, so they understand how their hard work fits into the bigger picture. I make sure they have the right resources and support to tackle challenges confidently. Recognizing and celebrating even small achievements keeps spirits high, showing that every effort counts. I also stay approachable, encouraging open communication to address any concerns. Together, we stay focused, motivated, and committed to overcoming obstacles, no matter the uncertainty.

Encourage dynamic whiteboard brainstorming sessions with your team. Engage organizational experts and leverage support from your network. Many challenges aren't unique, so harness collective wisdom and avoid reinventing the wheel.

The first, most critical thing, is to get curious about the uncertainty. What’s causing it? Is it something that can be assuaged with simple, meaningful changes, or just acknowledged? No motivation in the world will work if your team doesn’t feel like you see them and understand their concerns. Only once you’re certain that your team has been heard should you move on to motivational strategies.

I believe first figuring out whats causing the uncertainty and addressing it gives the team the best chance at staying motivated and engaged. Is it that the team feels they need a perfect solution? In that case addressing the team and reminding them to embrace imperfection with a mindset towards growth and improvement can lead to more effective problem solving.
