Needs are identified by customers or final product. Specifications can be very broad sometimes and that can be represented by different materials, however, the choice can be shifted into ease of production/costs/etc.

This is very materials specific, personal preference may actually go beyond such, considering past experiences in areas such as materials handling, ease of processing, etc, etc .. All factors would need to be considered, sometimes the ideal candidate due to spcific attributes is not the perfect fit when it comes to realising the end product.

It is not always just about the properties, the criteria needs to consider all aspects from sourcing to end product, that way you would get a clearer picture of what are the ideal candidates and which are actually more feasible.
