Just few days ago this week, I conducted a JOB SAFETY ANALYSIS session with Ground Handling employees for a big international airport (pls refer to my Linkedin updates). Now, issue of cutting corners on safety measures is not new. The reasons for corners are 1) nobody is aware, 2) shorter time to finish work and 3) carelessness. Root cause? Lack of training to perform proper safety audit! For me, if we can address & manage the above ROOT CAUSE, the team members can appreciate the importance of properly conduct safety audit. The audit should be able to produce the quantifying data - solid figures & measurement to describe the hazards and the associated risks. Info such as RISK ASSESSMENT MATRIX (RAM) 5x5 should be constructed. (A. Shukor)
