1 Communicate clearly and frequently

This is highly dependent on the type of team you have: I'll focus on what I've done 1. Get their input (How are they feeling, listen) 2. Provide the big picture - Why is this happening, what are the pros/cons if we don't deliver 3. set a timeline - letting the team know how long these hard times will likely last or how long are they expected to work extra hard etc. beyond that be transparent and help put teammates at ease.

2 Prioritize and delegate

Another key skill you need to master in crisis mode is to prioritize and delegate. You can't do everything yourself, nor should you. You need to focus on the most critical and strategic tasks that require your attention and expertise, and delegate the rest to your team. Trust them to do their best and give them the autonomy and support they need. Use tools like OKRs (objectives and key results), KPIs (key performance indicators), or SMART goals (specific, measurable, achievable, relevant, and time-bound) to set clear and realistic expectations and track progress. Review and adjust your priorities regularly, and celebrate the achievements and milestones.

If it's a real crisis (make it or break it... with only weeks to salvage the situation), I'd toss aside OKRs and other rigid overhead. It's "go time" and it needs to be clear that folks have to remain ethical and compliant. Everything else is fair game.

Use strategies like mindfulness, meditation, exercise, hobbies, or social support to cope with stress and anxiety. Set boundaries and limits, and respect the work-life balance of your team. A fifth and final skill you need to demonstrate in crisis mode is to learn and grow from the experience. Crisis can be a valuable source of feedback and learning, if you reflect on what worked, what didn't, and what can be improved. Axioms for Crisis Mngt at VCs: 1) Venture Capital = High Risk 2) High Risk = High potential for Crisis 3) There will be storms in 70% of the time. Some nasty, some soft, but still storms. 4) Teams are to be built upon the above. So - Set clear goals, plan A, B and C. ALWAYS - The whole team must know Plan A and B, and it is up to you to tell them WHEN to move from one to the other. - If you don't have Plan A, B and C (the stressed one), immediately prepare a prioritization list, from the top to cutting fingers. Revier it 3 times. - Always have 1 or 2 deputies. They will be running the show for you when you re dealing with a problem. - Debate your list with your deputies and ONLY them. - Now apply it, with mercy. Good luck and breathe.
