If your supplier is resistant to quality control measures, you can ensure product standards are met by: clearly communicating your quality expectations, conducting regular audits and inspections, providing detailed documentation, collaborating to identify solutions, incentivizing compliance, and potentially exploring alternative suppliers if necessary; essentially, establishing a strong partnership built on open communication and a shared commitment to quality.

The first thing is to define clear rules at the beginning of the relationship with the supplier. Preliminarily qualify the supplier through a selection process that includes an evaluation to confirm that the supplier is capable of producing our items. Sign a technical quality agreement (TQA) where the rules and consequences of violations are clear. Implement tools such as first article inspection (FAI) to qualify the initial units produced by the supplier. Taking into account the criticality, we can implement a Production Part Approval Process (PPAP) program, together with a lot of communication and continuous verification including inspection and internal audits.

The important point is to understand as to why the supplier is not willing to implement Quality control measures. Case1: Supplier may use machines which operate at six sigma level. Case2: Supplier focus is more on Turnover rather than quality. If it is case 1, you are assured of Product Quality and hence you may allow the supplier to have minimal Quality control measures. If it is case 2, and there are quality claims, then award new business only after he implements Quality Control measures for the existing business and for new business. This will help.

End of the day Supplier is a human being and every human being can be convinced. After all a CUSTOMER him self is a supplier. A few methods to win the supplier, 1. Collaborate with supplier instead of Competing 2. Allow the supplier to speak. Some times he would be a game changer. 3. Empower the supplier to the product understanding and allow to see where his supplies get into the product. Make him feel proud on his contribution to the product. 4. Share good practices and allow him to see the future along with you 5. Give him his share of RECOGNITION and APPRECIATION.
