Regularly update them on progress, explain prioritization decisions, and involve them in the decision-making process. By building trust and transparency, you can manage expectations and ensure that the client remains aligned with the project's goals.

Hence, you need to be very careful whether the demands are: 1- Within scope or out of scope. 2- Is it a gold plating or a necessary feature to have. 3- If it is a necessary feature then, update your lessons learned document on why it was missed at the first place during requirements gathering phase and register it with the change management. 4- Finally but not the last, go for the incremental approach to deliver the cutting edge future if it does not change the project baseline(Which I hope is a bare chance). But if it changes the project baseline then you have to go with the change management processes.

While alternative technologies are an option but as a project manager I would not ask you to dig down into it and that is a practice outside the boundaries of project management. Also, I would discourage the need of a scaled down version of client’s demand again you need to assess either it is a gold plating or a necessary feature. If necessary then how it was missed at the first place. Last but not least, you may excelsior the alternative option such as schedule crashing or fast tracking to still get the clients cutting edge feature demand and critically follow the critical path.

One thing you must not forget in leveraging the expertise, and that is the risk register. You may have to find and register new unseen risks that may arise due to new technology and to be open to communicate with the client properly and timely. But again it will take you to the starting position of the project before it was assigned to any PMO. And that is feasibility study report. You might have to look for the feasibility of the new technology and all.

And when project baseline is changed then you just need to get the client’s approval at the first place to accommodate in the budget/cost, schedule, quality, resources and risks.
