When scope changes disrupt my product design timeline, I prioritize clear communication and transparency with stakeholders. I start by assessing the impact of the changes on our project timeline and deliverables, then quickly regroup with the team to identify key priorities and necessary adjustments. I present a revised timeline to stakeholders, highlighting how we plan to adapt while still delivering on essential features. Setting realistic expectations is crucial, and I focus on maintaining a collaborative approach, involving stakeholders in decision-making to ensure alignment. By emphasizing our commitment to quality and the overall project goals, I can navigate these challenges while keeping stakeholder trust intact.

In my experience, I've found open communication to be the key in handling scope curveballs within a product design team. When things are thrown out of scope, both internal and external stakeholders expect to see results. First thing I do is have an open discussion with the team about what contributed to the pivot and collectively brainstorm together how to move forward with the project. To account for the pivot and consideration of the timeline, we would prioritise significant features and design iterativly as the team slowly adjusts to the new scope.
