Your online class is in full swing, but the screen sharing crashes. How will you keep the training on track?

For example, you could say, "It seems we're having a slight technical difficulty. No worries, we'll have this sorted out in a jiffy!" ? Avoid Panicked Troubleshooting: Resist the urge to frantically fiddle with settings in full view of your participants. This can create a sense of chaos and undermine your credibility as an instructor.

As an expert for conducting e classes, for more than 5 years and I have conducted more than 10k online sessions, it has happened with me many times that the class is at high swing and due to some technical issues, screen crashed. It's the triggered moment to show smartness and to engage the learner in interaction, dragging away the attention from the screen smarty so that the blind doesn't even realize that the screen has crashed. We can end the class after few minutes, saying that the screen was turned off with the intention that you put up your ideas and hive you opportunity to show your talent. The student can be assigned the rest part of the project as home activity for brainstorming

If screen sharing crashes during an online class, quickly switch to a backup plan. - Inform participants of the issue and apologize for the inconvenience. - Use alternative communication methods like chat or audio to continue discussing the material. - If possible, share a link to pre-uploaded slides or documents for participants to access. - Resume screen sharing as soon as the issue is resolved. - To avoid future problems, have a backup presentation method ready and ensure participants know how to access resources independently. - Maintain engagement through interactive elements or Q&A.

It is always important to have a plan B for such kind of technical issues. If it is an online class, I would probably send the slides before the class begins! We can either use the option chat to have a Qand A session and the white board ( Option available on Teams and Zoom)to explain the lesson.

Technology can fail and we should depend over on the same. While presenting in a conference many years ago I had an bad experience of the failure of my ppts. I utilized that opportunity to my advantage and continued with my verbal presentation ( Actually it came as a blessing as many of the points were already explained by previous speakers!) I could talk about them and add my perspectives. In online when screen sharing fails, it is similar to this. We can improvise and may move to interactive mood .

One thing I’ve found helpful is to drop a link to the presentation into the chat. Participants can pull up the presentation or documents on their own screen and you can continue the discussion while they can still have the visuals they need to follow along. Having a back up to your presentation is always a great idea, so that interruptions don’t derail the process.
