Although this is an unpopular opinion and definitely can be helped through the right implementation of smart irrigation systems, knowing your course and your clients you can establish a schedule of priorities through which you can filter out certain elements that can go through more extreme circumstances because they are not used as often and it won′t affect playability as much

We obviously need to adapt our flora to the course′s circumstances, this is why many inland courses in spain introduce a different type of grass during their top-seeding season. But they also plan accordingly selecting the right type of grass that will be able to handle the stress coming from the climatic conditions in the area

Interestingly enough, even though my home course was designed along the regular course of a big river in Spain, they actually built 1 gigantic lake which served two purposes, one was merely aesthetical and the other was to be used as a water storage system in case we had big droughts and irrigating the course was restricted

Adaptation to your circumstances is key, you need to be aware of where you are at and adapt your maintenance around it, not only that but you need to adapt the maintenance schedule to your members′ needs too, if your members want to have a challenging course and you don′t have enough water, they need to be aware that the end result will be brown-ish and be on board with it
