That is such a hard question. I have watched several of my screenplays get distorted - and imho, ruined - by directors who did not share the same vision. The truth is, there's not a dang thing you can do about it. The writer is the least favored person in the filmmaking process. That's not the case in television, where the showrunner reigns supreme. But in the feature world, there is very little a writer can do in the face of a director's own vision. The best thing a screenwriter can do is just let it go, and try to produce or direct the next one.
